I'm a chocolate-loving nutritionist, pre & postnatal coach, doula and let's face it- total birth nerd 🤓. I'm here to help you cut through mommy-marketing and pinterest perfection to confidently cultivate a pregnancy and postpartum experience you totally love.
Pregnant or currently have a tiny human (AKA space heater) strapped to your body? Rising temps, changing hormones, and growing bellies or hours of newborn snuggles make for sweaty, sticky and uncomfortable summer experience. While we can’t change the immediate forecast, here are simple ways to stay healthy and cool during a summer pregnancy.
Stay hydrated
Grab a big ass mason jar, fill it with ice and cool water, throw in a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of sea salt. The electrolytes in the salt will help replenish those you’re losing as you sweat!
Eat
Rising temps can suppress appetites– but as you’re sustaining not only yourself but also a tiny human, ya need to nourish your body! Keep it simple during heatwaves. Snack dinners (like a personal charcuterie board!) with cut up fruit, veg, cheese, and leftover cut-up sausages are an easy no-cook option. Smoothies are also a cool way to get lots of nutrients.
Need to cook? Haul out the instant pot!
Let your body breathe
The compression yoga pants can be put away for a while, k? Flowy, billowy clothes that allow your body to breathe (and sweat) will help keep your body cool. Same goes for little kids!
Create your personal AC
Put an ice block in a bowl and place it in front of your box fan. As the ice melts, cool refreshing air is blown your way!
Or keep it personal– take a bandana, get it damp and roll it up with 3-4 ice cubes. Drape it over the back of your neck. It’s messy, yet refreshing.
Keep the activities chill
Not every moment has to be productive (reminder for myself over here). Refer to that Joy List for activities you enjoy doing. Save movement for the early morning, when temps are reasonable. Later, find the coolest part of your house and set up a blanket fort, watch movies (with your personal ACs), maybe do an easy art project. Anything to keep you feeling grounded!
