To be honest, I’m nervous about giving birth. 

Yes, I’ve been here before (uh 3 times to be precise), and yet just like many birthing people I have that little pit in my stomach and a voice that’s whispering, “what if…” 

Here’s the deal, fear is a totally normal part of the process. That little voice whispering “what if” may not go away.

But it doesn’t get to narrate your entire pregnancy and birth experience.

So how do we bust through the fear of childbirth? 

• Invest in Childbirth Education
  • So much of the fear of childbirth comes from the unknown, which makes sense! Understanding the MANY MANY variations of normal, healthy, empowered birth alongside the potential for plans to change can help quell the fear. Even as I’m about to give birth to our fourth baby, I’m still reviewing my own childbirth education resources. 
• Assemble your Trusted Support Team
  • Do. Not. Go. It. Alone. 
  • Prenatal care is not just about vital statistics and kick counts (though both are important). Having a team of people to work through the big feelings, sus out misinformation, and help you create an empowered birth plan and processing is invaluable. Ultimately you need to feel safe, seen and heard no matter where or how you choose to birth. 
• Explore All Options
  • Admittedly, this is the least fun. No one wants to imagine anything other than that beautiful ideal birth. BUT planning ahead for those changes in plan allow you to adapt your birth preferences and values without the stress and anxiety of the actual moment.
