Here’s a refreshing twist on a summer classic! Blueberry basil limeade! Tart and refreshing, I think this tastes like summer! Just tell me I’m wrong.
A few weeks ago, I was treated to a delicious batch of Essential Omnivore’s Sparkling Probiotic Mint Lemonade. I’d never made lemonade before, let alone a fermented version, and I was surprised at how easy and delicious it was. I also appreciate how low in sugar her recipe is. It allows those lemons to sing their sweet tune.
We recently hosted a fun summery party and I knew I wanted to share her tasty beverage. I also happened to have an abundance of limes, blueberries and basil, so inspired by the fun that was making that mint lemonade, I whipped up this fun limeade to go along side it. Moral of the story, the Essential Omnivore is the real genius here, this is just my limeade.
In a high speed blender, combine the lime juice, blueberries, basil leaves and 1 cup of water. Blend until smooth.
Heat the remaining two cups of water and bring to a simmer. I like to use my electric kettle to save time with this step. In a medium bowl, whisk the honey with the simmering water and continue to mix until dissolved, creating a simple syrup.
Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
Add the cooled simple syrup to the blended blueberry mixture and blend until combined.
Using a mesh sieve, strain the limeade into a pitcher. Discard the pulp.
Chill in fridge until ready to serve.
To serve, fill a glass with ice and fill halfway with blueberry limeade and top with sparkling water!
Garnish with a basil leaf if youre feeling fancy.
Cocktail Variation: Add 1 ounce of vodka to large glass and top with limeade and sparkling water.
