These Chili Lime Sweet Potato Fries are tossed with lime juice, avocado oil, and smokey spices, and then baked to perfection, with a crispy outside and soft center. The fries are smokey, but not spicy! So if you’re struggling with pregnancy heartburn or feeding a spice-adverse toddler (or husband in my case), don’t fret! If you want to up the heat, add some red pepper flakes to the mix for a little kick!
Summer ’round these parts means grilling season! And we are firm believers in the perfect pairing of burgers and fries. We prefer sweet potato fries over their white potato cousins because they offer a more nutrient dense, whole food carbohydrate.
Orange fleshed sweet potatoes (which are actually red garnet yams), are high in Vitamin A and C as well as the minerals potassium and manganese. Vitamin C is crucial for iron absorption, collagen synthesis and immune support, all vital for a healthy pregnancy and postpartum healing (NIH, 2018).
Snag two baking sheets to give the fries plenty of space as they cook. The space around the fries allow them to crisp up. If the fries sit too closely to each other, then they’ll steam. They’ll still be delicious, but we prefer a crispy fry!
Serve chili lime sweet potato fries alongside your favorite BBQ fare. They also pair delightfully well with our One Pot Loaded Veggie Paleo Chili. Chili fries anyone?! Yes Please!
Preheat oven to 400° and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Slice sweet potatoes into 1/4-1/2" thick fries. Try to make them as even in size as possible.
In a large bowl, whisk together the spices, lime juice, oil. Using your hands, toss with sweet potato slices to evenly coat.
Turn seasoned sweet potatoes out onto the rimmed baking sheets. Arrange in a single layer with a bit of space around the fries. The spaces helps the fries crisp up instead of just steam.
Roast for 20-25 minutes, turning fries over halfway through baking time.
